For children between 0 and 2 years
 
Activities for this age group will be to a certain extent revolve around the child’s own sleeping patterns as established by parents.
 

Activities include on a daily basis:

  • Lots of language work with staff talking and listening to the children responding to their sounds and attempts at language.
  • Singing activities.
  • Rhymes and action rhymes.
  • Simple story and picture books.
  • Music ring games and dancing activities.
  • Early painting skills.
  • Sand and water.
  • Exploring building blocks, manipulative toys, threaded objects and simple form boards.
  • Using push along and pull along toys.
  • Sit and ride skills.
  • Feely bags and boxes.
  • Working on listening skills.
  • Taste experiments.
  • Ball games – rolling, kicking throwing.
  • Self feeding skills.
  • Dressing up games.

Some children will start to potty train in these rooms when  parents initiate this.

For children between 2 and 3 years
 
Activities for this age group will start to be slightly structured.  However, there will still be lots of time for free play and exploration.
 

Activities include on a daily basis:
 

  • Imaginative and role play activities.
  • Dressing up activities and practising dressing skills.
  • Table top activities – form boards, puzzles, threading, sorting, pegboards.
  • Exploring different painting mediums – finger painting, printing, bubble painting, string painting etc.
  • Slime, sand and water play activities.
  • Cutting and sticking.
  • Early number work through rhymes, songs, stories, puzzles, counting games and reinforcement of staff.
  • Colour – matching, sorting, naming through many different experiences.
  • Shape – matching, sorting, naming through many different experiences.
  • Music experimentation – simple rhythm, instruments, culture.
  • Singing games and rhymes.
  • Ring games.
  • Story groups and exploring simple information books.
  • Construction activities – sticklebricks, duplo, popoids etc.
  • Dough, clay, plasticine.
  • Cooking activities.
  • Sound recognition games.
  • Computer – keyboard interaction.
  • Developing pencil skills and colouring.
